Oliver Ngy Brings Nomad & Big Bass Dreams To Texas
We challenged Big Bass Dreams founder Oliver Ngy to find a way to catch Largemouth Bass in the toughest conditions he could muster…and he delivered. Cold front fishing in the middle of winter is as hard as it gets.
We chose a lake in La Grange Texas that had a warm water discharge which Oliver hoped would keep the wintering fish interested in eating. Equipped with the new Nomad Freshwater line-up and understanding the Chug Norris and Dartwing, top water baits, were not going to see much action, we pushed off to 25k knot winds blowing 35-degree Texas temperatures. However, the Atlas and D-Trak crankbaits were going into heavy rotation, joining the Shikari jerkbait and the Swimtrex Lipless Crank.
The fish started hitting immediately and what started as a trip where we hoped we would get a bite or two as well as some photos and feedback from Oliver along the way, fast turned into a Freshwater Smackdown!
With 29 fish caught in total on the Shikari Jerkbait, Atlas Squarebill, D-Trak and Swimtrex Lipless Crankbaits, the R&D Team at Nomad were gratified beyond words to see how under such tough conditions these baits over-performed.
Oliver, together with running Big Bass Dreams with his team, also fishes the Bassmaster Opens across the country. He is well known for having extensive experience with top of the line swimbaits and Japanese hardbaits. Not expecting the fishability and effectiveness of Nomad’s new line-up, he was pumped up and immediately wanted more. He started talking about Clearlake California before we even got back to the ramp.
At the end of the day, we returned to the hotel windburned, cold, excited and began planning our next trip.
