Shallow Jerkbait — a Lure you can’t Afford to Ignore

Jerkbaits, by their actions and performance, are very attractive lures but most of them aren’t that effective when you’re fishing in very shallow water. That’s when you need a shallow suspending jerkbait that will work extremely effectively in water depths of two feet or less.

Many bass anglers, as well as those after other species, often don’t consider the possibility of jerkbait fishing in the shallows. However, that’s where the target fish often are and so you’ll be missing out if you don’t at least give it a try. Read More

Shallow Suspending Jerkbait that Works Really Well

Jerkbaits are known to be at their best in pre-spawning periods and late fall, while they’re also extremely effective in cool and clear water or even in warmer water when prey fish are actively feeding. But when you’re fishing over early weed growth in spring or are trying to avoid underwater obstructions that can foul your gear, shallow dive jerkbait can be exactly the right option.

The shape and width of the lure determine the maximum depth to which it will dive and its attraction to various fish species. Most can be cast long distances and have actions that fish find hard to ignore. These include sharp left and right turns as the rod is jerked rather than the lazy movements associated with some lower quality jerkbaits. The actions can cause both sound and vibrations, mimicking the appearance of an injured baitfish and so being extremely attractive to predators.

Many of these lures, in contrast to offshore trolling lures, are perfectly suited to shallow waters and so are effective against species such as whiting, flathead and bream as well as bass. However, to meet all eventualities, it’s best to have a selection of shallow jerkbait lures in your tackle bag. These can include:

  • Subtle jerkbaits for cooler times when fish are lethargic.
  • Aggressive jerkbaits that are colorful and hard to ignore, prompting reaction bites.
  • Oversized jerkbaits for bigger species.
  • Shallow water jerkbaits for when water depth is especially limited.

Quality Shallow Water Jerkbait Lures that are an Excellent Investment

Don’t be tempted to buy cheap shallow jerkbaits in order to save a little money. You’ll almost certainly be disappointed because they won’t stay at the required depth, won’t attract the number of fish you expect and will generally not last very long due to a lack of resilience.

All the shallow jerkbaits we supply at Nomad Tackle are of the highest quality and are proven to be effective. Because of this, you’ll pay a little more than for economy versions but it’s an investment you’ll never regret since your lures will have all the attributes you need.

Effective control means you can keep your jerk bait lures in the area and at the depth where fish are present while sharp and realistic movements attract fish to the bait. You can fish them fast or slow, with long or short pauses depending on the conditions and can choose styles and colors that are very effective. The result is successful tackle fishing in even the shallowest of water.
